Dane Kissack Testimonial
– By Ryan Hommel
Meet Dane Kissack! Dane is one of Nelson Chiropractic’s sponsored athletes. A little background on Dane, he is a professional cowboy, specializing in calf roping. With over 10 professional championships, holding an area record with a time of 7.2 seconds, and being an 8 time Badlands Circuit Finals Qualifier, he is an extremely accomplished professional athlete. He is also a proud native of Spearfish, South Dakota and the beautiful Black Hills.
I had the pleasure of speaking with Dane about how much Nelson Chiropractic and chiropractic care in general, has helped him in his path to becoming such a successful professional athlete.
Q: Why are you an advocate of chiropractic care?
A: “Well, I’ve learned a lot since I started going to Nelson Chiropractic. Bjorn and Devon were the first ones to really show me how chiropractic care can be integrated into, and be an addition to modern medicine. I remember when I had a pretty serious back injury and initially everyone thought I was going to need surgery. The first opinion I decided to get was Dr. Bjorn’s. His natural and holistic mindset lead to him believing I wasn’t going to need surgery. We decided it would still be smart to go see a spine specialist anyways to see if we were on the right track, and it turned out that Dr. Bjorn was right, I didn’t need surgery. Due to him wanting to treat my injury naturally, I avoided getting unneeded surgery, which helped save a large chunk of my career. I think that’s what made me a big believer right off the bat.”
Q: What would you consider the biggest benefits of chiropractic care?
A: “I think people get wrapped up in the ‘day-to-day mindset’. It’s easy to go about your day without the need to see a chiropractor if you're not in pain in that specific moment. Realistically though, there have been multiple times where I had no idea I needed to be adjusted, but it turns out I did. Through those experiences I learned that one of the biggest benefits of chiropractic care is that even when you're not hurting, going in for an adjustment, an acupuncture session, a massage, or any of the other services that they offer at Nelson Chiropractic, can keep me a lot healthier in the short term, and the long term. Making chiropractic care a routine has created the highest quality of life possible myself.”
Q: Have you felt any type of change to your level of competition since you started going to Nelson Chiropractic?
A: “Absolutely. I go in multiple times a week for various kinds of treatments, and I've felt and seen the direct pay off of doing so. In my sport, you can’t risk dealing with injuries all the time. Being able to compete at my highest level is key to my success, and Nelson Chiropractic has been a major component in allowing me to do that.”
Q: What separates Nelson Chiropractic from just any chiropractic clinic?
A: “Nelson Chiropractic isn’t just a chiropractor. It’s a clinic that offers multiple services such as acupuncture, massage therapy, hot room workouts, and more. I like to call them “the full package”. They are able to provide me with whatever kind of treatment I am in need of. Plus, everyone on staff genuinely cares about you and your well-being, they aren’t just there to get a pay check.”
Q: What do you have to say to young athletes who haven't looked into chiropractic care yet?
A: “I think all athletes can relate to this one question, “How good do I want to be?”. As a professional in my sport, as long as its morally correct and legal, I’ve always done whatever it takes to be the best I can be. I wish I would've known about chiropractic care much earlier in my career because it would've made me a much better all-around athlete at a much younger age. Going in for regular treatments gives me that extra edge that every athlete looks for, so my advice to younger athletes would be to start giving yourself that edge before injuries and old age forces you to try and play catch up later on in your career.”
